Terrace Dreams

Wandsworth Property Guide

July, 2015

Remember the 1990s American sitcom Frasier, with its super chic apartment, open-plan from front door to cityscape views?  Swap Seattle for South West London and you’re close to the design concept behind “The Terrace Collection” arranged across the upper floors of Putney’s tallest building, the 11-storey London Square development on Upper Richmond Road.

All the two and three bedroom apartments have large terraces with sweeping views taking in The London Eye, Battersea Power Station, The Shard and Canary Wharf.  Most of the 11 apartments share a floor with one other  property, but the most luxurious of all – the £2.3M two-bedroomed showhome – sits on its own private floor, with each room opening onto a wraparound roof terrace.

Inside, the modern-meets-eclectic Frasier chic is in full swing, with rich copper wall coverings and a light colour scheme, including splashes of blue to maximise the natural light and spectacular glass wall bathrooms – a part of our neurotic psychiatrist’s domain with which viewers were blessedly unfamiliar!

Designers Honky Interior Design have taken what they describe as an American approach, eliminating the hallway and creating a seamless link to the outdoors with floor length windows and bi-fold doors.  But it is the outdoor space that has the real wow factor.  The terraces are large by London standards and designed to make the most of city-based summers, with firepits, swinging hammocks and comfy sofas.

Who will be buying?  Young professionals for sure, attracted by a five minute walk from both Tube and overground railway stations.  But also downsizers, relishing the opportunity to be close to the city’s attractions, yet just a seven minute jaunt from the river and its bustling cafe and restaurant life.  And, of course, its the perfect refuge for gratefully ageing, eternally witty, occasionally fragile bachelors such as Dr Crane.
